Though the governor of the state has made a major push for wind energy programs -- believing they are the only way the state will be able to meet its goal for renewable energy sources (20% of state’s energy coming from renewables by 2022) -- there are some notable examples of solar photovoltaic (PV) projects as well.
The state is also eyeing job creation as a result of these projects. McCubbin also discusses the importance of feed-in-tarriff (FiTs) to the success of these efforts.
Among the large PV projects cited by McCubbin: a poultry producer based in Maryland will have two large-scale solar PV installations, one in Maryland and the other in Delaware. Another project is being developed at the University of Maryland. There is also an ecology campus/farm in the planning stages for another part of the state with an aim to educate children.
