Report: Dow Chemical, Honeywell high scorers in nano

June 12, 2003 - Dow Chemical and the chemical arm of Honeywell International ranked highest in a new scorecard of 20 large U.S. chemical companies according to their nanotech activity, a new report said.

Lexington, Mass.-based Consulting Resources Corp. (CRC) has released the Chemical Industry Nanotech Scorecard, which places companies at one of five levels. Dow and Honeywell were in the highest level, which denotes strong nanotech activity and good leadership potential. DuPont and General Electric are in the second level, which signifies respectable nanotech activity with a chance at leadership in the emerging field, the report said.

The lowest three levels, which range from adequate to little or no nanotech activity, include Dow Corning, ExxonMobil, PPG, Ciba Specialty Chemicals and Huntsman. CRC said these companies are unlikely to be leaders in nano.

CRC said it used a proprietary approach that included publicly available sources and company-specific information. It intends to regularly update the scorecard for industry players and investors, the release said.
