FEI tabs Veeco exec as CEO

07/24/2006

July 24, 2006 - FEI Co. has hired Don Kania, president and CEO of Veeco Instruments Inc., as its new president and CEO, replacing interim CEO Ray Link, who took over when Vahe Sarkissian stepped down in April.

Prior to working at Veeco (since 1998), Kania held various technical and general management responsibilities at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Los Alamos National Laboratory. "Don's background in nanotechnology and capital equipment markets make him a perfect fit as FEI's new CEO," stated William Lattin, lead director of FEI's board of directors. Kania also has a background in the Asian markets, noted Link, who will continue his role as CFO.

In a brief statement, Veeco indicated it would not replace the president/COO position.
