May 22, 2012 -- Indium Corporation acquired a manufacturing facility in Rome, NY, to expand its production capacities of indium-, gallium-, germanium-, and tin-based materials, as well as other compounds.
Growing sales to solar photovoltaic, flat panel display (FPD), semiconductor and packaging, optical fiber, and light-emitting diode (LED) manufacturers necessitated the expansion.
The new facility enables Indium “to partner with new customers on their challenging future requirements,” said Greg Evans, Indium Corporation president. It also expands Indium’s product range and improves process efficiency.
Indium is outfitting the Rome facility with manufacturing equipment, processes, and analytical capabilities to produce high-performance materials. Indium will be able to convert a wider range of feed materials into high-purity compounds, and recycle customers' reclaim streams.
It can accommodate future expansion of upstream and downstream processes. This is Indium’s 11th and largest plant.
Indium Corporation is a materials supplier to the global electronics, semiconductor, solar, thin-film, and thermal management markets. Products include solders, preforms, and fluxes; brazes; sputter targets; indium, gallium, germanium and tin compounds, and high purity metals; and Reactive NanoFoil.
